There was a repeated sensation that I has as a child before sleep which was that the space behind my eyes was incredibly tight, a tight, dark matchbox, suffocating in its claustrophobic imprisonment. And slowly the space would expand and expand until it was enormous. In a way I feel that experience is still the basis of my work.

I made these works a while back, in June for a show that was curated by Lorraine Pilgrim titled Drawn Forth. Lorraine's career spans over almost 40 years, fostering the talents of Queensland emerging artists. She has been the back bone of many successful artists careers such as Michael Zavros, Abbey McCulloch, Victoria Riechelt, Anthony Lister and Mari Hirata. She's been a mentor to me since I was in my second year at QCA, and she continues to support me in my work as well as many other talented artists in her stable. She's such a sweetheart.

Recently I have been looking at the works of film maker, Mathew Barney's work. In particular his 24 year old, on going project DRAWING RESTRAINT. In his early years of this project, it features him, as an undergrad at Yale, in his studio, tied to things, or hoisted up, with a drawing implement in his hand. I have finally stumbled across a lovely little studio in a great part of town, which has leant itself to be an emboldening environment to work in, as opposed to rolling out of bed and working in my pyjama's. I hope to get some much anticipated projects off the ground, and perhaps, create drawings with all sorts of implements like this.

I have recently relocated to Melbourne to pursue a life of change and further my skills and practice.

It's hard not to feel like a small fish in a big inner city, high density living pond. However, all experience have added up to be rewarding. Folk here are friendly. Daily, I go on a gastronomical tour in various parts of the city, and its autumn right now- so everything is sexy.

Here's a work I've made for the Prometheus Visual Arts Award in QLD.

I have left the office, and have given myself annual leave. I have finished wrapping up a year of challenges, shows, projects, and living on the Gold Coast. I am heading Melbourne bound, for that perfect studio I've been dreaming of, and working towards new and exciting projects. One in which I'm happy to announce is exhibiting in a group show in Bologna, Italy in March ,2011. I've been lucky enough to be involved internationally with Fiona Kennedy Altof, Mari Hirata, and Kate McCarthy. Each to there own, having an array of styles to bring to the table. These are the latest works to date- Italia Bound.

After returning back to making some drawings I was twiddling my thumbs, feeling fancy free until I had failed to remember I was apart of this show! Paper Tales a group show curated by the ever so darling Courtney Brims. Courtney and I are the only girls who have exhibited a solo show at Nine Lives, so it was nice to have a woman's touch added to the gallery once more. We all then burnt our bra's.

I haven't been around here lately, and I apologise for not informing you actively. After an 86 year run, my Gramps passed away. He was a true legend. A scotsman who ran away from home at 16 to sea, where he became a Captain. He lived an interesting life, going on missions, sailing continent to continent, and conquering unforgiving storms and pirates, torpedo's, and giant squid's (no joke!). I learnt a lot from Gramps from his love of scotch, love of life and love of family.

To all our Paper Friends, a big thank you from Guy and I for coming along and supporting us on the opening night. It was a smash hit. It was the first time Guy had exhibited, and he produced some really astounding and at times very little works. It was fun combining the nature of our works together to create something really fun. Looking for a studio on the Gold Coast sucks. I won't say anymore, to avoid a rant of utter frustration.

So, in order to solve my studio woes, good friends of mine Chryslyn and Magnus let me move in for a couple of months, to use a space in the back of there neat little vintage store in Burleigh. It may be a change room, but its been an ideal place for me to make some things over the last couple of months. To say thank you, I'm putting on a show with my BF, come round this Friday, have a red.

A while back now, I was involved in a residency as a part of 19Karen. The project was titled Lightmares which also featured Berlin street artist Mymo, as well as some top artists from the great south east, Georg, Fiona Kennedy Altoft, Jesse Dolman, Will Duncan, Michael Candy- to name a few, each to there own bringing diverse styles and creations to the table. To wrap up the residency, we closed with a group show, titled Lightmares, and this is what I made.

After 4 months of reaping and sewing, friday night proved to be a good harvest. The smelly, crunchy, and spider filled leaves seemed to make people happy, and even make autumn snow angels. Thanks to the people of Uki for letting me sneak on to your property and take some of your incredible maples. And Archie Moore, thanks for the yellow eucalyptus. Joel for your great connections with the Botanist at Mt.Cootha. Thanks to all for coming by, and crunching leaves and having a beer!

Many months ago you would have found me at my desk, hunched over, coffee in hand, drawing tool in other and not really doing much else. From the late night hijinks, and hibernation Harvest was conceived over and over again through obsessive little marks, and working mostly small scale.

I have now finally surrendered my last work, and will start installing this week at Nine Lives. I've been super excited to work with the nifty nine for a while, and can't wait to exhibit at there new space in Ann St. If your in the Valley between the hours of 1800 and 2100 on Friday night, I suggest you duck into the friendly looking dark alleyway between DR.Martin and Fabrik and check it out.

The Smith's have moved in. Myself, and hellraiser Sam Smith, who is of no relation have secured a responsible baby sitting job and are currently looking after artist Simon McLean's studio till he returns from galavanting around Europe. Neighbouring mostly mechanics, the place is desolate and has some interesting quirks lying about. It sure is a friendly place, and the Smith's already feel quite at home.

Eat, Sleep, Have Visions

In June of this year, I had my very first solo exhibition which I titled Eat, Sleep, Have Visions which was held at 19 Karen Contemporary artspace on the Gold Coast. It took me a solid 3 months to prepare and make the works for the show and millions of litres of coffee to get me on my way. The process was just as much about the finish result, which lead me into an interesting, delirious world where day to day mark making and drawing filled every bit of my spare time, and working under strict conditions to prevent drawings of lucid and fluid motion result in utter chaos. First show kicking off in 2009, was Semi Permanent's TUESDAY local exhibition. This show opened at 19Karen, and then travelled up yonder to Nine Lives in Brisbane. Unfortunately, these are the only photo's I have of the show at Nine Lives in Fortitude Valley. Was a great show, and up in the left there on the 3 bits of timber.. yeah thats my work, and some guy filming all the action of the evening.

I kicked my last semester on uni in the pants, and finished a university degree in Fine Art. A lot of people ask me what that means, I'm not sure, an artist? According to 2004's QTAC guide, a Bachelor of Visual Media in Fine Art career outcomes lists an inventor among other endless possibilities.

At the end of the year, I got together with my two high school chums Nicholas Chalmers and Ben Havenaar and the very super talented Merry Wilson. We put together a group show titled No Promises, which was held at 19Karen, on November 29.

Finally a blog has emerged. I've entertained the thought for months and have been putting it on and off for quite some time now. After several attempts, losing my gmail passwords, documented works, and a grueling final year of study, here I am, with old works, new works, and progress of newer works.
